Men's College Lacrosse Recruiting Intelligence — Roster Analysis for D1, D2, D3, NAIA & NJCAA | RosterWise™
Men’s college lacrosse recruiting operates on its own timeline, with its own dynamics, and families benefit from understanding the specifics. This section is dedicated to men’s lacrosse recruiting — the rules, the realities, and the data — across NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and NJCAA.
What makes men’s college lacrosse recruiting different
Three things set men’s lacrosse apart. First, the recruiting calendar: like all of lacrosse, the men’s game opens contact at the start of junior year rather than under Division I’s general rule, which allows coaches’ calls from June 15 at the end of sophomore year. As of August 1, 2026 the men’s date is no longer September 1 — it is 7 a.m. on the Wednesday immediately following Labor Day of junior year. Before that date, athletes can email coaches, but coaches’ responses are limited and phone calls are barred in both directions.
Second, men’s college rosters include international players, including Canadians, some of whom come through box lacrosse as well as the field game. The NCAA’s recruiting rules apply to them the same way.
Third, where a program recruits matters. Each program’s roster lists hometowns, which shows you where its players come from.
Correction, October 9, 2026. An earlier version of this section said Canada “has long shaped men’s college rosters,” with box-lacrosse players “valued for their stick skills and finishing,” that “some programs carry a notable Canadian contingent; others recruit almost entirely domestically,” and that the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast “remain the sport’s heartland, though the game continues to grow” elsewhere. We have no data supporting those statements, so we removed them.

What roster intelligence covers for men’s college lacrosse
RosterWise applies roster intelligence — systematic analysis of every roster at every program — to men’s lacrosse. The dimensions that matter most:
- Position depth — how many players a program carries at Attack, Midfield, Long-Stick Midfielder (LSM), Face-off (the app’s name for the FOGO position), Defense, and Goalie, and how each group is spread across class years.
- Class-year gaps and roster turnover — how many seniors and graduate students at each position leave after this season, and how many return.
- Geographic recruiting patterns — the states a program’s players come from, and the countries its international players come from.
- Recruiting pathways — how many players came through a club, a prep school, a high school, or another college, based on the last school each roster entry lists.
- International players — how many, their share of the roster, and which countries they come from. Canadian players are counted under Canada, not by province.
- Transfers — players whose roster entry lists a previous college, and the colleges they came from.
- Coach tenure — how long the head coach has been in place.
Correction, October 9, 2026. An earlier version of this list said RosterWise shows “which Canadian provinces a program draws from,” promised “transfer portal patterns,” described pathway analysis of “the summer tournament circuit, and recruiting showcases,” said specialist roles like FOGO and LSM “carry small numbers, so a single graduation can open real opportunity,” and described coach tenure as a signal of “program direction.” The app groups international players by country, not province; it shows the transfers listed on each roster, not transfer-portal data; its pathway view comes from the last school each roster lists; we had no source for the claim about specialist group sizes; and tenure describes time in the job, not where a program is headed. We rewrote the list from the app.
Every recruit’s timeline is different
The right program depends on factors no timeline can predict. Some athletes hear from coaches as soon as the rules allow; others emerge through a strong junior or senior season. Use these guides as context — not a checklist.
